June 12, 2008 - The Xbox 360 was outsold by every major gaming platform but the PlayStation Portable in May and sold fewer units than it did last month, according to data released today by the NPD Group.
In April, the 360 just barely outsold the PlayStation 3, selling 188,000 units compared to Sony's 187,100. But last month Microsoft moved only about 186,600 consoles in the U.S., compared to Sony's 208,700 PlayStation 3s. And now that Metal Gear Solid 4 has launched, we expect June's numbers to widen that gap even further.
But while Sony and Microsoft battled it out on the high-end console front in May, Nintendo casually sold 675,100 Wiis and 452,600 DS units.
Here's a handy list of each platform with its unit sales:
Nintendo Wii - 675,100 Nintendo DS - 452,600 PlayStation 3 - 208,700 Xbox 360 - 186,600 PlayStation Portable – 182,300
